Group Dining at the Big House Inn

Chief Chef John LaPrelle

Food at the Big House: Country style table, many selections, all dietary needs and restrictions are cheerfully accommodated. Some form of animal protein is served at every meal, with several vegetarian alternatives. Edgar Cayce's general dietary recommendations are followed, in a gentle way, with emphasis on fruits and vegetables and tastiness. Participants rave about the "gourmet" quality of Chef John's preparations:

"The Big House was a delightful “getaway-from-it-all” kind of place, made very comfortable and inviting by hosts Sandy and John LaPrelle.  I particularly enjoyed the healthy, good food served in abundance, which was spiced up with a big serving of John’s humor and storytelling."

"Three times a day at the Big House, John LaPrelle did for for honest, wholesome food what Georgia O'Keefe did for for the everyday flower- turned something we thought we knew into a sensuous presentation that made even the agnostics among us understand and appreciate the need for the ritual of Grace." Meg Toffey

We'll enjoy the surrounding nature sites as a wonderful environment for our exploration of shamanism.

The Big House Inn sits at the mouth of Mountain Valley Farm, a 3000 acre estate available for our exploration!

"As far as the Big House goes, I was completely amazed that such a huge house had no dust!!  Even the little glasses above the office door sparkled.  The genuine kindness of the host family can not be expressed in words, it must be experienced.  As a student of energy medicine and practicing psychic I was so pleased with the clear space, no anger, no muck, no stagnant energies anywhere.  This is rare to find in a church, let alone a house. I felt honored to have been welcomed in their home." Nora Truscello

"It may be “The Big House” but it isn’t a jail.  The “Big House” is a three story farmhouse run by John, Sandy and Elizabeth LaPrelle.  The beds are clean and comfortable.  The food is delicious and plentiful.  Most of the food is prepared by the LaPrelles from local sources.  Very little of it is processed.  So it is wholesome and natural and good to eat.  Some of it is vegetarian, and some of it is not.  So you have your pick.  They try to honor special food preferences.  There is usually some kind of bread, baked from scratch, at each meal.  Everything is served family style around a big table.  You may or may not want to be the last one to a meal.  If you are, you are in charge of grace. Discussions are usually lively and filled with humor.  And if you are lucky, or you ask nicely; Elizabeth, a professional entertainer, and Sandy just might break into song.  I felt very well cared for while I was there and part of a big family.

The house is surrounded by a farm (cows can roam to within about 100 feet of the house), the Jefferson National Park, and down the road is the A.R.E. camp.  So you might hear all kinds of animal noises at night.  Very relaxing for those of you use to the noises of the city or civilization.  Just for your information, cell phones don’t work very well out there.  They do have a phone if you really need to contact someone.  They also have WiFi, if you need it.

One afternoon of the workshop is spent with June Collier, who is an astrologer extraordinaire.  She brings to life all those funny symbols on your astrological chart and then adds her own intuitive sense to personalize your chart.  She is very informative and entertaining. She might even clear up some questions you’ve had about your life.

Another afternoon is spent at a spa.  There you can detox your body, work with a biofeedback program , spend time in an alpha capsule, recharge at an oxygen bar, enjoy a massage, revitalize in a room made out of salt or rejuvenate with a Magnetic Labyrinth.  You may even get to play with Tibetan Chakra Bowls.  Those are the kind that if you rub the outside with a stick they will start to vibrate and create some excellent tones.  If you are lucky, Janis will perform a concert on the bowls as you meditate.  It is not to be missed, and so is the spa.

So if you haven’t noticed, I loved the workshop.  It is well worth the money.  So just do it.  You will gain a lot and learn so much.  And by the way, no compensation was received for this endorsement. I swear. It is just a great workshop.  Do it, you will thank yourself." Kurt Sofko

The room and board charge for the five days will be $350. That fee is included in the total package price described on the payments page. Meals will be based upon the Edgar Cayce readings, low of meat, high on vegetables. Chef LaPrelle enjoys catering to individual food preferences and needs, not limited to vegan, wheat free, etc.

For more information about the room and board situation, please contact the homeowner, Sandy LaPrelle. You may phone her at 276-686-5878 or email her at sandynewlap@hotmail.com
