A dream shield may be created to evoke a sense of
identity, to express one's purpose in life, or simply to
focus on a particular theme or question. The shield I've
drawn here was created to help me understand one of my
relationships with the Earth. Symbols related to this
theme were taken from various dreams and released into
the circle. They seemed to arrange themselves naturally.
The finished shield provokes my imagination and
prompts me to become conscious of its lesson.

Call for Testimonies

Alissa Goldring, a graduate student at the Humanistic
Psychology Institute, is collecting testimonies concern-
ing instances of dreaming of something—objects, words,
persons—that the dreamer had never heard of before,
but which later turned out to have important personal
significance. She relates an example from her own
dreams:

"I had a dream where I heard what sounded like 'Que
mantra, Shatero!'
The phrase baffled me. I recognized
'mantra,' but not the last word. A year later I heard that
last word again, in a story, and I tracked it down to an
Indian creation myth, where Shateropa was the first
woman on earth. I found the myth to have many
implications for my personal situation; and it led me into
deeper aspects of my being."

If you've had a similar experience, please describe it in
a letter to Alissa, c/o Sundance, Box 595, Virginia Beach,
Virginia 23451. She'll answer each of your letters, and
will publish in our journal a summary report of her
findings.
